Club President Chad Williams brought the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.

Wings Program at Indy Exec — Chad Williams reported that after the April meeting several members attended the AOPA Safety Seminar at Indianapolis Executive Airport. The seminar was on emergencies and how to handle them. The presented stated that it is up to the pilot to determine whe a situation is an emergency. There are no specific parameters for declaring an emergency. His recommendation was to call ATC and declare; the worst thing that can happen is that ATC will give you additional help that you didn't ask for. Additional hints and take-aways:

  • Learn how to get on the ground fast if there is a fire. Most aircraft will be lost within 90 seconds after catching on fire
  • Know your V-speeds
  • Don't look too far ahead for an emergency field. Usually the best place is right underneath you. Too often pilots and aircraft are lost when trying to glide too far.
  • If the engine quits most pilots do not have the time or the altitude to stop the prop so don't worry about it.
  • If the engine fails don't just slow down the airplane to best glide speed; trade the excess speed for some altitude and gain a bit more time in the air.
  • Cessna 310 Update — Case is still stuck at the sheriff's department. The club is clear with the lawyers and all paperwork is completed on our end. The property owner will talk with the sheriff to see if we can get the sale moving along, as will John Saalwaechter. Additionally, the club has authorized action on the Piper Aztec but the attorneyrs have not started on the proceedings yet.

Treasurer's Report — Checking account balance is $8,091.76, general savings account balance is $5,932.72, and fuel savings account balance is $5,400.49. All bills are paid to date. Last month's electric bill was $294.88, which was about $95 over budget. The club had some discussion on what could be causing the overage, and members informally decided to check to see if there were any grounding losses on the new building. The club also discussed the status of the trash dumpster. Although it is locked we have had some non-members enter the office, take the key and open the dumpster for their personal trash. The club pays for only one trash pick-up per month. We had to schedule an additional pick-up last month at a cost of about $65, which was not budgeted.

April Clean-Up Day Report — Chad Williams thanked all of the volunteers for their participatioin. Work completed included painting the runway lines and numbers, cold patch on the taxiways, re-set runway lisghts to meed codes, replaced some runway and taxiway lights, runway blown free of rocks, spin trim around runway lights and ditches, old mogas tank removed and loaded, old waste old tank drained and moved, and added a new plastic tote for waste oil.

July Elections Nominations — The club's annual election of officers and directors will be held at the July meeting. Nominations to date are: Ray Rice, president; John Saalwaechter, vice president; Dick Gurley, treasurer; Michael Mossman, secretary; Earl Brosman, director; Chad Williams, director. Nominations will be accepted through the June meeting and up until the ballots are completed and mailed. After ballots are completed members may still vote for write-in candidates.

Fuel System — The counting mechanism on the north pump had to be removed; no one in the club knows how much it costs to get it fixed or replaced. Members are reminded to pump adgas from the south pump. Earl Brosman noted that he has a friend who may have some refurbished fuels pumps available.

Club Marketing — Earl Brosman downloaded a list of aircraft owners in central Indiana and suggested that the club send a mailing to each advertising hangar spaces at Boone County Airport. Chuck Leucht parsed the list for aircraft that could potentially fit in our hangars. Michael Mossman will design a post card and Chuck Long has volunteered to print the cards and mail them. Chad Williams motioned that the club budget up to $225 for the project; Dick Gurley seconded. Motion passed with a hand vote.

Adjournment — Dick Patterson motioned to adjourn; Gene Hollingsworth seconded. The meeting was adjourned.
