Club President Ray Rice called the meeting to order at 9:04 a.m.

Volunteer thanks — Ray Rice offered the club's thanks to Earl Brosman and Betsy Boleman for replacing the runway lights with LEDs. The lights are brighter and easier to see from a distance; Earl still has four or five to fix. Ray also offered the club's thanks to Don Geisler for mowing the property and spraying for weeds. Additional thanks were offered to Don for fixing the runway. Ray passed around a "thank you" card for the members to sign.

Introduction of Visitors — Mark Van Zant and Ana Van Zant visited the meeting to meet the club members. Mark bought a Cessna 170, which is currently in Utah but will be brought to Boone County Airport. Mark's daughter Ana will be taking lessons in the 170.

Club Equipment Status — The Dixie Chopper mower engine is broken. We will be sending the mower to Riner Equipment for evaluation. There was some discussion about whether or not we could take the engine from the pull-behind mower and use it on the Dixie Chopper, as the pull-behind never gets used anymore. Once we get the costs for repairs we will send an email to vote on what route we take for repairs. John Saalwaechter volunteered to pay for the mower but no action was taken on the offer. The club no longer has any equipment to plow snow so we will need to decide how we will handle this in the next couple of meeting. John Saalwaechter has a small plow that we can use but we will need a vehicle for it.

Fuel — The club is currently out of fuel but a new load is scheduled to be delivered on September 10. Price is now set at $4.25 per gallon. Earl Brosman posted the price on the fuel pump; members need to multiply times 10 to get the current amount. Earl has also transferred the meter from the old pump onto the pump in use so members can now read their volume directly from the small numbers.

Club Elections — John Saalwaechter moved to approve the results of the August election; Earl Brosman seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously with a voice vote.

Operations Building Maintenance — Ray Rice mentioned that we do not have a regular person to clean the operations building. He will post a sign asking that persons using the facilities clean up after themselves.

Grass Surface — Ray Rice has petitioned the FAA to make the grass runway an official runway; he reports that the FAA is working on it. We will need to have markers on the ends. Once it is official we can have the grass runway listed in the facilities directory. The grass runway will not be lighted.

GPS Approach — Matt Kreich petitioned the FAA to get a GPS approach into Boone County Airport. Although we can't get a regular approach because the runway is not 60 feet in width, we can get a special approach, which for our purposes will be virtually the same as a regular GPS approach. The FAA will be developing the approach.

Dog Roast — Ray Rice motioned for the club to host its annual Dog Roast on Saturday, October 13, evening, with dinner at around 6 p.m. Michael Mossman seconded, with the weather alternative the next weekend. Motion passed on a voice vote. The dinner will be a pitch-in; Michael Mossman to contact Chuck and Pam Leucht to see if they can coordinate the food and set-ups.

Planes and Popsicles — The members present informally approved hosting a Planes and Popsicles event at the airport on Saturday, October 13, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. No rides will be given, but children coming out to the event will be given the opportunity to sit in an airplane and get their photo taken. Members are asked to bring their aircraft out onto the ramp and talk with the kids and their families. Ray Rice will get a Facebook page started for the event and run an ad or news release in the local newspaper.

Young Eagles — No events are currently planned, and no groups have inquired about an event. John Saalwaechter would like to host a Young Eagles event concurrent with the 2019 Back To The Fifties festival.

Runway Report — The runway was out of service for a few days earlier this month for repairs. Don Geisler hired the crew and covered the expenses. INDOT recently conducted their inspection; we are in non-compliance because there are a few runway lights out and the windsock light was not working. Ray Rice will organize a crew to get these fixed. Earl Brosman suggested that the club seal the cracks in the runway with tar, which should be done this time of year. Earl will contact Wayne Deckard and Chad Williams to see who we have used in the past. Ray will also call the mayor's office to see if the city street department has a crew, materials or equipment that we could use.

Marketing — Ray Rice would like to generate a brochure highlighting the benefits of being in an aircraft partnership for learning to fly.

Miscellaneous — John Saalwaechter brought in a low-cost ADSB-in device with CO monitor, solid state gyro and GPS, which is intended to send flight data to ForeFlight. It's made by the same company that sells ForeFlight and is open source, so it is compatible with other software. John also mentioned that by 2020 ADSB-out is mandatory in much of the U.S. airspace. A company called uAvionix makes and ADSB-out device that merely replaces a wingtip light. It is a self-contained unit with LED nav light and is powered by the same wire that powered the previous wingtip light. A version replacing the tail light will also be available.

Next Meeting — Saturday, October 13, 2018, 9:00 a.m.

Adjournment — The informational meeting was adjourned.
