With a quorum declared, club vice president Ray Rice opened the meeting at 7:04 p.m. EDT

Club Thanks — Ray Rice extended the clubs thanks to Kevin Secco and Earl Brosman for painting one and a half hangars early. He offered that the club needs to pay Kevin $100 for his early labor contribution.

Wildlife and Predator Report — Earl Brosman cautioned members to be on the lookout for black buzzards, which are new to the area. Black buzzards are different from the normal turkey buzzards in that they will attack and kill animals. Black buzzards are reported to kill small livestock. Members are cautioned to watch out for buzzards when flying and to keep pets sheltered when buzzards are around. Black buzzards are a protected species but up to five can be killed with a permit.

Dog Roast and Fund Raising Report — The bicycle ride fund raiser had about 24 people participating. Some rode up to 12 hours to diabetes. About 8 people showed up for the dog roast later that evening. The club has about 50 hot dogs left.

Old Business — Earl Brosman bought LED Bulbs for the rotating beacon, which is still working. The club expects to save money over the life of the fixture due to reduced energy costs. The runway still has loose gravel and needs to be cleaned.

Hangar Painting — Kevin Hoffer and Earl Brosman did a test painting of one hangar. With the test Earl expects that painting the remaining hangars will take four volunteers 10 hours a day for a couple of days, not counting the roofs. He estimates that the labor costs will be about $1,600 and another $400 for supplies. The club has about twice as much paint as needed and could sell some when the job is completed. The paint is Sherwin Williams Best Latex, tinted tan or light brown. Ray Rice has a couple of bunny suits to offer to the painters. Earl wants to buy extensions for the paint sprayers so the entire job could be done from ground level.

Painting volunteers needed: one person spraying, one person mixing paint, one person water cleaning the buildings, one person moving behind with airplanes.

John Saalwaechter will bring a pressure washer with extensions. Michael Mossman will check to see if he still has a sprayer to offer to the club. Michael to send an email to the club about painting, asking for volunteers and the need to move airplanes to prevent overspraying. The club is looking at Saturday, October 23 to start painting and finishing on October 24 (Sunday) or perhaps the following Saturday. Kevin Secco would like to pre-wash the buildings to save some time on Saturday. The storage room in the Operations Building will need to be cleaned to make room for the leftover paint, which can't be stored in freezing conditions.

Avgas Report — The club has about 400 gallons of usable fuel remaining and will need to order more. We usually order when we are down to about 200 gallons. Fuel may cost up to $5.00 per gallon, as energy costs are up. Fuel price will be unknown until fuel is delivered; the club will need about $6,500 to pay its share of the load.

Maintenance Items — Earl Brosman offers he following list for easy maintenance work:

  • Repair wind sock at north end of runway. Ray RIce will order a new sock right away
  • Winterize maintenance hangar. Jay Schaumberg will need to be notified, as we will have to access his hangar.
  • Re-locate firewood
  • Winterize mowing equipment
  • Move paint to Operations Building
  • Put out mouse poison and traps
Club Equipment — Earl Brosman needs an extension ladder high enough to reach the hangar peaks, which he expects will cost $200 or less. Michael Mossman motioned to buy a ladder, 28-feet long or less, for $200 or less. Chuck Long seconded. All voted in favor; motion passed. John Saalwaechter reported that he bought two LED lights with photocells, which lights up his lot; Earl Brosman recommended the club buy more for $25 each. The lights will cost 25 cents per day in total to light up all of the hangars. The lights will replace the existing motion detectors. John Saalwaechter motioned to spend $150 on lights, Earl Brosman seconded. All voted in favor; the motion passed. Earl Brosman volunteered to install the lights.

Aircraft Transactions — Don Geisler is offering his well-equipped Piper Archer for sale. The aircraft will be sold with a fresh annual. Interested parties should contact either Don direct or Earl Brosman. The Beechcraft Twin has been sold for salvage. Roy Dawes will be cutting up the airframe for disposal.

Associate Member Notes — The club re-confirmed that the costs to join as an Associate Member are $50 initiation fee and $5 per month, payable by year. The monthly fees will be pro-rated to April.

EAA Chapter — EAA Chapter 1311, located in Hendricks County Indiana (Danville/Avon), is considering disbanding and would be willing to locate to a new home to stay active. Dale Thomas says that hosting a chapter would help raising the visibility of the BCAA. To relocate to Boone County Airport, the chapter would need to vote to move. Its elections are held annually during the November meeting. We would need enough current chapter members or BCAA members to join the chapter and win elections for officers and directors, then hold a vote to move. There should be no direct costs to the club for hosting the chapter, as the chapter would be responsible for all of its operating expenses. Ray Rice motioned for the club to offer to the chapter to move here and use the facilities. John Saalwaechter seconded. All voted in favor; motion passed. John Saalwaechter said he would be willing to be the chapter president.

Treasurer's Report — Chuck Long reports that the club has $13,926.46 in the checking account and $5,306.32 in fuel savings. All bills to date are paid. Only one member is three months in arrears on hangar rent.

Adjournment — The meeting was adourned at 8:07 p.m.
