Club president Matt Kriech opened the meeting at 7:02 p.m., after a quorum was declared.

Treasurer's Report — Balances as of May 27, 2022: Checking account $8,746.34; fuel savings $6,935.27. Rent arrears $3,272.50; fuel receivables $2,794.81. Matt Kriech requested that the report be updated with current balances.

Avgas Report — The club has only 75 gallons of avgas left; Earl Brosman has ordered more and is expecting the load to arrive the week of June 13. The cost will be about $10,000; which will put the price of fuel at around $7.00 per gallon. Members owing for fuel are asked to pay promptly, as the next load of fuel will deplete the fuel savings account.

New Ratings — J.A. Beck got earned his private pilot's license. Matt Kriech signed him off for the check ride. Congratulations!

Mowing Report — Don Geisler's tractor caught fire a few weeks back and is in the shop for repair so the club has been responsible for mowing the entire property during the interim. Earl Brosman has recruited Bert Fetzer to assist with mowing, and will be paying him to mow going forward if the mowing can't be done by volunteers.

Maintenance Fee — Following a discussion at the May 2022 meeting about a need to pay for more maintenance (including mowing) at the airport and not enough volunteers to do the work, Matt Kriech motioned to assess each hangar $20 per month, year around, to cover maintenance costs. Ray Rice seconded. All voted in favor, none opposed. The Maintenance Fee will be effective July 1, 2022. Matt noted that there is no reason that anyone can't still volunteer. The club was formed in 2004, and has had only one hangar rent increase since then in 2016. Although the Maintenance Fee is not a rent increase, the fee represents less than a four percent increase per year per hangar if spread over the six years since the last increase.

Volunteer Report — Earl Brosman reports that the club is often lacking for volunteers for mowing and other airport maintenance items and will use some of the maintenance fee for hiring outside workers when necessary.

Associate Membership Report — Earl Brosman says that the $50 initiation fee plus $60 annual membership fee is too high for associate members to consider joining and would like to drop the initiation fee. Matt Kriech motioned to waive the initiation fee; Ray Rice seconded. All voted in favor of the motion; none opposed. Matt further motioned to assess a $20 annual maintenance fee to associate members; Ray Rice seconded. All voted in favor; none opposed. Earl Brosman requested that each person who is a member of the EAA Chapter 1311 become an associate member of the BCAA and help support the airport. Michael Mossman will send a list of current and former associate members to Jason Dodd to vet the list and help generate some support. Larry Poe reminded the members that associate dues are due on April 1 of each year.

PPG Report — Earl Brosman proposed moving the PPG staging area to the south end of the grass, where they can leave their coolers, chairs and other equipment. Earl supplied drawings on how the grass surface can be better utilized by all other aircraft. Ray Rice will consult with the property owner to see if we can temporarily mark the grass with chalk to help members better visualize where Earl's recommendations are.

PPG Event Report — Jason Dodd reports that the August PPG Event will have the same structure and procedures as last year, and he is promoting it now. The event will be open to the public with a barbecue dinner on Friday night, catered by Jawbones. The breakfast was well received last year so they will host it again this year. He expects more people than a year ago but currently does not know how many will attend. His attendance limitation is more about campers than pilots, and projects a maximum of 30 camping spots. Would like to convert the event into an EAA event, which will provide access to more affordable insurance.

Airport Projects — Earl Brosman has a golf cart given to the club that is in pieces and needs to be reassembled. He also has enough truck batteries to run it. Earl has a older computer, software and controllers to put together a flight simulator. The club could use another TV, as the one in the Operations Building is not working well. Earl and Mark Poliak also have two Ercoupes, which have enough parts between them to put together one good working airplane.

AirVenture Planning — Earl Brosman will be taking his motor home to Oshkosh one week before the annual AirVenture show and is inviting members to ride up with him, or meet him there and camp together.

EAA Chapter 1311 Report — Brett Pritchett is still working on getting the EAA chapter officially transferred to Boone County. The old membership in Hendricks County has no interest in continuing so the chapter will be starting from scratch with officers and membership. Matt Kriech would like for the chapter to host its meetings on the same night as the BCAA meeting.

Airport Signs — Earl Brosman has some signs that he would like posted on the airport property. Earl will send them to Ray Rice and Michael Mossman for prototype and revision, then send to the club for recommendation.

BCAA Elections — The club will conduct its annual elections of officers and directors at the July 14, 2022 meeting. Michael Mossman will mail ballots to current regular members within a couple weeks of the elections. All regular members in good standing are invited to run for an office or director position. Slate of declared candidates at this time:

  • President: Ray Rice
  • Vice President: Matt Kriech
  • Treasurer: Chuck Long
  • Secretary: MIchael Mossman
  • Director: Earl Brosman, Kevin Hoffer, John Saalwaechter
Chuck Leucht Report — Long time BCAA member and former director Chuck Leucht died on June 3 after a recent diagnosis of cancer. Earl Brosman will collect contributions for flowers. The Celebration of Life will be at Chuck's church on Friday, June 17, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Adjournment — Matt Kriech motioned to adjourn; Earl Brosman seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 8:25 p.m. EDT.
